“Reaching Kids for Christ”

The mission of Operation Full Camp is to fill Canyonview with children from deployed military families, single parent homes, inner city families, or from families that may be struggling financially in the current recession. We want to reach children that normally would not have the chance to experience a summer at camp.

December 2011 – Dale Price Book Release

Shortly after learning about the cancer that was to both challenge and refine them, Dale and Ruby began working on a book that would capture the essence of their journey. That special publication, Embracing the Refiner’s Fire” is now available online, via Amazon.com, or from your favorite bookstore. [Note: This is the new and revised edition of the book that was first published in November 2011.]

Dale said, more than once, “I won’t be defined by cancer. No! My identity is in Christ and His perfect plan.” “Embracing the Refiner’s Fire” reveals how deeply and successfully Dale lived out his statement. The book includes day-to-day reflections from Ruby and Dale; stories from family members, ministry partners and professional colleagues; and honest accounts of what it’s like to win the ultimate fight: Who will get my best? God or something, anything lesser?

The book is for everyone, not just those facing a life-threatening disease. One reader put it this way: I liked how “Embracing the Refiner’s Fire” wasn’t so much about cancer and Mr. Price’s fight to conquer the disease, but about making the daily choice to trust God. The impact of Dale and his wife on the lives of others made me realize how important it is to live with integrity – especially when people are watching to see how you’re handling difficulties. I loved the chapter, “This Has Not Taken God by Surprise,” because there are times when it seems like God doesn’t know/care what’s happening to me. This is a great book for anyone who wonders if God is there – really and truly there – through the most difficult times.

Canyonview welcomes Rick Saffeels or "Tiger" and his fiancé Caley to the full-time ministry of serving the Lord. Rick is filling the position of Camp Program Director as Drew Stark, who served faithfully for 5 years in this capacity, resigned to pursue a Master’s degree in counseling at Western Seminary.

Rick graduated from Corban University in May of 2011 with a BS in Elementary Education and he comes to Canyonview with a broad range of experience in Christian Camping, coaching sports, teaching, leadership, and worship ministries.

Rick has been at Canyonview since 2002 when he started as a J.C. (Junior Counselor) from Salem Heights Church. He has served as a T.I.M. (Teen in Ministry), lifeguard, day camp counselor, overnight counselor, horse camp counselor, and directed the 2011 Teen Camp and Boys Wilderness week two. Rick really enjoys camp and is looking forward to serving in any way that the Lord needs. He is also excited about the upcoming Father/Son Retreat and the Auction this fall. Dale Price (known as Buzzard) who served as the executive director of Canyonview for many

years, went to be with the Lord peacefully at 1:58am April 16.   He woke right before to look at his family. One minute breathing / the next minute he knew he was going. Glory is given to God by all.

Dale Price, our long-time teacher, mentor, co-worker, and friend, has died from cancer after battling it for the last 2 years and 8 months, which was longer than the original six months they gave him.  We are sad because we will miss him, but we also rejoice as he is ushered into the presence of God and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ as it says in 2 Corinthians 5:8, "We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord."  I believe Dale is very well pleased now.
